Meet the Governors
Who are school governors?
Governors can be parents, staff at the school, residents or representatives of local organisations. They don’t need to be an expert - what’s really important is that they have energy, enthusiasm, time and a real desire to help provide children with the best possible education. To support new governors, we provide training from the local authority and a mentor. This short video provides more information.
Our Governing Body
Chair of Governors - Mrs A Barrow I started my Governor ‘life’ at Buckshaw Primary as a parent governor when my children attended the school. They thoroughly enjoyed school life, the staff, the other pupils, the work and all the other activities which school provided, and I can say, hand on heart, that they thrived here at Buckshaw. My working background has always been in accounting and finance within a manufacturing environment and not education, which I believe allows me to view the school’s strategic position with a different set of eyes. As a governor, I am passionate in supporting Buckshaw to grow and thrive to be the best primary school it can be in all aspects of school life. |

Vice Chair of Governors - Mr I Hewitt I became a co-opted governor at the school in June 2024, following 4 years as a parent governor and 2 years as Vice Chair of the schools PTFA. Although my son is now in year 6 at the school, what motivated me to take up the role of a parent governor was the enthusiasm displayed by the children and staff, and the nurturing environment the school provides to ensure children get a firm foundation to their education. Now retired, prior to doing so, I spent 37 years in the public sector in various roles within HM Forces, the NHS and latterly the Civil Service where I was a senior manager at the Charity Commission, leading a team that investigated the most serious and high-risk regulatory concerns in charities. All the skills and knowledge I have accrued across my previous career has set me in good stead in my role as a governor and I relish being involved with such a vibrant, engaging school and being able to give something back to the community, the focus always being on providing the children with the best educational experience our school can possibly give them. |

Local Authority Governor - Mr F Nelson After a long career in school finance and experience in a variety of schools across the North West, it is a pleasure to work with a happy and ambitious school such as Buckshaw Primary School. I come into school most weeks to listen to the children read and provide support as a volunteer on many of the school trips. |
