Term 1
On 3rd September, we were lucky to get a visit from the Lancashire Library service last Wednesday, to kick off a new year of reading at Buckshaw. The staff were excellent and even brought along Mei Matsuoka, an inspirational illustrator, who talked to the children about her life working alongside amazing authors. She helped the children create their own storybook characters before having some fun with ‘Dog Sumos’ – a traditional Japanese game, but inspired by her book ‘The great dog bottom swap’. The children were enthralled by Mei’s stories and loved getting involved. Thank you to the Library Service for coming and sharing this great experience with us.
We enjoyed our English unit this half-term, looking at the Loch Ness Monster and stories connected to it. We have created magazine articles about the myth and read a lovely story called 'Treasure of Loch Ness'. We have been inspired by stories of myths and creatures to produce some excellent work and developed our reading and writing skills along the way!
Have you ever used a string telephone? We were so excited to build and use string phones in our Science work last week and discovered how sound travels closely through solid particles and so sound can then be louder over the same distance.
